Selection and Eligibility

The residency is open to contemporary visual artists working in all disciplines.
However, please note FT’s restricted facilities. Please see Q &A in this section.

Aspiring artists who have not had the opportunity to work or study in London before, will be prioritised. Applicants should have at least a moderate level of spoken English and should feel comfortable engaging in artistic discussions in English.

The selected artist should be able to engage discursively and critically with the FT’s A.I.R scheme and London’s wider artistic and cultural context.
We expect residents to be self-motivated, and to lead on the research and production of their own work, during their time with us, as well as engaging with the fellow studio artists.

You will be expected to be present, in your studio at least 3 days a week and a failure to contribute to the residency will lead to the removal of your place.

Q. Can I bring my partner/children/friends in my studio?
A. All the studios are the working place. You can occasionally invite people in your space, but please respect other artists, make sure to refrain from making any loud conversation or noises. You are responsible for anyone who you invite to the studio. The premise is not designed for accommodate young ones. You are not allowed to consume any alcohol in the premise apart from the event organised by FT. Also Zero tolerance to any drug activities.

Q. What kind of activities/practice do you restrict?
A.  No hot works or toxic and/or dangerous products, heavy machinery are generally forbidden, due to the nature of the studio building. Artists should ask the permission of Directors before using any product that could be considered toxic and /or dangerous by the common sense.

If you think these restrictions will hinder your working practice, we would recommend that you do not apply.

Accessibility

Due to the historic nature of the building and its limited facilities, we are unfortunately unable to offer residencies for people with limited mobility.

We welcome all enquiries and are open to discussing how our residencies programme can be adapted to better cater to artists’ needs. If you have any questions about access requirements and our facilities, please contact us after 24th June.
